Campaign Launch
On feeling more clarity the second time around.
The years swiftly pass, bringing you where you need to be as they move along.
I ran for office in 2022 in Austin; I sought a role called Justice of the Peace in Precinct 1 of Travis County, Texas. As a democratic socialist, I primarily campaigned on the message that housing must be viewed as a human right as evictions proceed in Justice Courts. In addition to those cases, JPs in Texas also handle marriages, truancy referrals, and matters that are classified as small claims.
I called for money and knocked on doors. We conducted a swift and principled campaign. Despite the result on March 1, 2022 - my 3,300 votes to the incumbent’s 12,000 - I was incredibly proud of what we did in four months.
Fast forward to the present, and I’m back in the race. I now have sobriety, two more regular legislative sessions, and deeper connections with my community in Austin under my belt. I understand the need for socialists to seek office in this moment of global upheaval, and I refined the core message of the campaign to meet the occurrences of 2025: no one is disposable.
This week marks the official campaign launch. If you’re in Austin, please join us at Batch Kolaches at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening. If you’re unable to make it, please share the website with your network and consider making a donation to power this grassroots campaign.
In the face of relentless ICE raids, genocidal settler-colonial projects, and class warfare waged by billionaires who seek to privatize everything, may we gather to organize and reinforce that communities will take care of themselves.
I look forward to ushering in a better world alongside y’all.
